Industry Advisory Board
Motivation
Quantum computers promise to solve problems beyond classical capabilities. Recent advances in hardware have brought intermediate-scale quantum devices within reach. To realize their potential, foundational research in method development is essential, as—similar to classical computing—value will be created by software.
To ensure that software concepts and tools developed within the SPP remain applicable, portable, and impactful across diverse hardware platforms, the Quantum Industry Advisory Board brings together leading experts from the quantum hardware community.
Role within the SPP
The QC Industry Advisory Board is an advisory body supporting the Priority Programme 2514 in ensuring that research results remain relevant, compatible, and validated across diverse quantum computing platforms.
The QC Industry Advisory Board strengthens the connection between theoretical, algorithmic, and practical developments, thereby advancing the overall goal of the SPP: developing hardware-independent quantum software and algorithms along all levels of the quantum software stack.
Purpose and Functions
The QC Industry Advisory Board aims to:
- Align software development with realistic hardware constraints and opportunities.
- Enhancing the long-term usability and sustainability of SPP outcomes within the evolving quantum software stack.
- Serve as a sounding board providing validation feedback for methods, concepts and tools developed in the SPP projects.
- Facilitating early feedback loops between software and hardware teams.
- Identify hardware trends and requirements relevant to quantum software development.
- Promote exchange and collaboration between software developers and hardware experts within and beyond the SPP community.
- Encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration across the SPP.
Appointment and Tenure
The QC Industry Advisory Board convenes at least once per year, usually in conjunction with the SPP’s annual meeting.
The Board consists of experts in quantum hardware development, ideally including:
- Principal Investigators (PIs) of SPP 2514 projects involved in developing (experimental) quantum hardware platforms, and
- External experts from academia and industry involved in quantum hardware development covering a broad spectrum of quantum technologies.
The representation of the experts in the QC Industry Advisory Board should cover all major hardware platforms, including already commercially available technologies to more experimental setups.
The members of the QC Industry Advisory Board are appointed by the SPP’s coordination board for a term of 3 years (until 31.08.2028).
